The Well begun is half done. To avoid mistake and misuse of electrostatic precipitators (ESP) the system design should be done carefully and to understanding mechanical features of ESP systems. In the same time, models of different producers CAN NOT be compared based on air volume range provided by them, but have to be adjusted based on mechanical specification to be able compare apples to apples.

1. Air Volume

In existing exhaust system, ventilation contractor and maintenance should provide information about total air flow and acceptable pressure drop for existing fan. For new build system, please contact us and we will guide you in sizing exhaust system.

- In existing exhaust system, ventilation contractor should provide information about total air flow, also total pressure drop of the system and capacity of exhaust fan will identify that.

2. Air Velocity

The faster air moves in ESP the less efficient collection is, while pressure drop increases. It is a tricky to choose air velocity there five things you should follow.

General recommendations:
- All types of ESP < 2 m/s.
- AHU operates on 2.5 m/s.
- In case of space limitation ESP can used on high velocities (please inquiry us for system and equipment adaptations).

The efficiency will increase at slow velocities while smaller pressure drop will save your money on electricity bill.

All ESP technologies are utilizing electrostatic forces to collect pollution, and the from air stream, and changing air velocity will have same effect on performance and pressure drop. We advice our customers to choose air velocities they would "run" their ESP and than choose models to fit their minimum air velocity requirement.

3. Unit Minimum Face Area

The ESP face is area front of air flow. It is important to estimating minimum size of ESP face area:

4. Modules to Models

A. Module Capacity:
Your specified Air Velocity (m/s) multiplied by module¡¯s Face Area (m2) will provide you a good estimate for each module capacity.

B. Modules make the Model:
The model that we will supply to you will consist from several modules that you will select and we will assemble at our factory. Select one module type and divide Minimum Required Face Aria by Module Face Area to understand how many modules you need to cover needed air volume.

5. Optional Modules

Double and Triple Stage Filtration
Double Stage filtration is always recommended. We will assemble two module one following another. Single Stage filtration has efficiency of 90-95% meaning 5-10% of pollution will escape. Double stage will increase efficiency by having two times of 90-95% pollution removal to result in 99% performance. In addition Double Stage second module will be a guardian for case of emergency, e.g. over-used first module will failed in power supply than second module high voltage power supply will continue collecting pollution from the air. Double Stage is a must in many application of heavy load pollution and critical for production process. Triple Stage is recommended for exhaust system combined with ventilation system and general air recirculation.

Active Carbon and Odor Control Module (After-filter)
ATOM ESP will remove all smell associated with grease and smoke, however some tiny odors will stay in air stream. Odor Control Module is designed to remove residents from air exhaust after efficient ESP filtration.

Pre-Filter Panel or Module
ATOM ESP is supplied with basic mesh filter pre-filter that will take rough pollution and droplets of oil. However in some applications it is not enough. Consult with ATOM Team to understand what benefit you can achieve with pre-filtration inside of ESP housing or by adding addition module.

HEPA / Bag filter Module (After-filter)
Whether it is safety filters or requirement to achieve certain regulated standard it is possible to ensure with Filter Module.

Ozone Generator / UV-C Module (After-filter)
Ozone can be used to treat some of the pollutants however there are numerous considerations that should be taken into account. Please consult ATOM Team for more details.

Fan Module or with Plenum Connection
